Pluto Vol. 3, by Naoki Urasawa

What’s so compelling about the sadness of the characters in this murder mystery? Their hangdog faces and shadowed cheeks are the most effective evocation of world-weary sadness I’ve seen in comics. Perhaps I’m interested in their revelations, but I’m not sure. Dealing with the terrible things done in their pasts is fascinating.
